The smoke was dark, blocking out the dimly lit lanterns that hung from the walls. The smell was musty despite the smoke, a thick oak smell from the darkened wood of that tavern. I again wondered at why I was there. I leaned back, the armor I wear absolutely out of place in this hole where polish hadn’t seen metal in years. I was careful with my back to the wall, watching for any movement in my direction. I didn’t like the company I found in such places, but it was necessary, I had heard it was important.
The fat and grimy inn-keeper brought a tray of what could best be described as slop, with him he carried a board with bread on it and a long dirty knife. I already knew about this place, despite the busy atmosphere it was best to not put anything from here into my mouth… it’s easier to keep secrets in a crowd.
A hooded figure approached me, his eyes were like bronze under his cowl despite his dark appearance it was obvious that he did not belong here. He sat across from me and looked skeptically at the ‘food’ placed before me. His voice was soft, but confident. “Do you know why I’m here?” he queried. I placed my hands on the table palms down, the leather hand guards well worn made no noise as my fingers stretched over the grime, leaving marks on the wood. “I’m here to tell you that the food here is bad for you.” I was stunned… I looked around in mock disbelief, obviously I knew that this kind of food was bad for me, while I knew it was a popular thing to do, and easy, I knew it wasn’t for me and had long since stopped eating it. The lack of subtlety in my response didn’t surprise him, he waited.
With something I choose to describe as grace I shoved the food off to the left against the wall, the smear that it left was noticeable and unappetizing, all around people continued to eat, such a contrast as I noticed the eating hobbits of those around me versus this cloaked figure. I pulled from my satchel some bread, cheese, and meat and divided it with this stranger. As I brought the bread to my mouth he winced. His voice was low, and so I listened closely “I just told you that the food is bad for you.” This time I had no choice but to be stunned.
“Excuse me?” The man, suddenly looming from his seat across from me reached into his bag, and in half of a moment he whipped his fist into the air and my vision was clouded while I coughed on a fine powder, a dust that sparkled in my eyes, mouth, and nose. When the coughing subsided and I could see again nearly everything in front of me glowed a suspicious oozing green. “What have you done?” I requested unable to keep a tone of curiosity and wonderment quiet.
“The Lords of this land over the years have been paid handsomely to add a kind of magic to the things eaten here, have you noticed how some things never rot? Have you noticed how there are ‘foods’ that you cannot feed to even the lowest of vermin or bugs? This has been poisoned.” His gesture somehow encompassed everything on the table and in the kingdom. “Look around, these people, even those who work from sunup to sundown are unwell.” With my new sight I could see clearly that he was right, I saw people who were active enough who were in as bad a shape as the innkeeper. “I have given you the sight to see, whether you choose to continue to eat like this is up to you, but at least now you know.” Again I was blinded by a puff of smoke, and he was gone.
I have since pondered on the truths that my eyes have been opened to; the following weeks were a nightmarish struggle of famine as I sought desperately to find foods that were not contaminated. I found that most of the things over the last lifetime that I had become accustomed to eating were contaminated, the change in lifestyle was difficult, but as it came I found a new vitality, my armor fit better, my outlook on life improved, the dim haze of oppression was removed from my shoulders and I could do things that I hadn’t been able to in years.
So now I hope to share with all who will listen the simple lesson that some of the foods in the kingdom are not what they appear to be.
Several years ago I discovered that fast food was terrible for me, as I gave that up my ability to remain in the shape I wanted improved. Last year I learned about Hydrogenated Oils and High Fructose Corn Syrup and Canola Oil, as I studied further into these substances it became more than apparent that these man made substances have enough resemblance to food for our bodies to not vomit them out in self defense, but beyond that they share no similarities. Our bodies, lacking a natural response process them as best as they can. Hydrogenated Oils (Trans Fat) coat the inside of your body from esophagus to the veins of your heart, to your very bowels with an armor-all waxy coating that prevents the absorption of nutrition. This throws your body into a state of continuous fat storage in hopes that you’ll be able to survive the famine that nature and evolution tells it you’re in. Introduction of Hydrogenated Oils and High Fructose Corn Syrup in our society coincides directly with the obesity epidemic.
So now you know that it’s bad for you, you just need the sight… there are better websites http://www.bantransfats.com/ for that than this, but imagine that everything in your house has it… that would be more of a true statement than you want to consider.
I recently read an article regarding the first steps in making a healthier society as restaurants and bakeries in California will be required not to use this substance.
A diet is more than just something you do for a couple of weeks to lose weight, as a penguins diet subsists mostly of… fish, my diet doesn’t contain poisons. Since I have cut these things out I can now eat everything my heart desires (that doesn’t have these poisons) and I do amazingly well physically.
It’s a hard subject to talk about without alienating people. I tell you because I care. There are a lot of people who wonder why no matter what they try they don’t lose any weight. I propose it’s because you’re body has a coating inside of it that prevents absorbing nutrition, and thus you’re probably always hungry among other things.
Please share with me your thoughts on this, it’s a rough subject. The articles I read regarding California are stated below, and some other interesting links regarding what I’ve learned.

“I found that most of the things over the last lifetime that I had become accustomed to eating were contaminated” ~ Ain’t that the truth..
While first reading this…I thought gasp…he found my fat blog..aack! As I am a tubby trying to lose weight. We’ll not so much trying, as I have lacked the ability to find my determination (it will come…I know it), but pondering it greatly. My hold up seems to be in my mind…but I have some meditation cd’s to help me with this…just need to listen to them, and follow the schedule. And also have that one on one talk with myself to just get over it and do it! Great post…we all should take a look and see with our own eyes the poisons of this world.

You are absolutely right. It is certainly NOT easy eating healthy when the very things touted as healthy are just the opposite. We try to eat chemical free and organic in our house, we buy locally, we support the farms that don’t use pesticides, we read labels and grow our own herbs, but sometimes it gets in anyways - - and yeah, you’re right, you can feel the difference for days.
We HAVE to be aware of the things we put in our body.

Thank you Claudia and Harmony. The more I look for poisons the more I find, it’s a slippery slope.
Welcome to the blog Claudia, I’m glad that I’m not the only one who has grown to love Organics, the more I learn the more I veer towards the Organic section of the grocery store.
A healthy body leads to… longer, more enjoyable … exercise.
