Taking the Stairs - Meditation

Instruction, Philosophy

For this Friday’s Meditation Moment I’m going to take you on a little flight.  The purpose of this meditation is to relax your body and your mind, while your body and mind relax I will take you through your mental journey into a place where you’re in control, at peace, and totally comfortable.  Once again I ask that you find a place that is safe before we begin.

Following is a meditation method to follow to bring yourself to a place of comfort and relaxation.  There are many methods of meditation, but it helps to have a guide who can walk you down the steps.

As the journey begins please make sure you’re completely comfortable, take a second to set yourself in order, prepare by taking a slow and steady breath, pay attention to your breathing, take it easy and slow.  I’m going to do a count down from ten to one, when we reach one you’ll be in a state of relaxation, capable of feeling and seeing in the world created through this meditation.

Ten, like going down a number of stairs we walk forward, the lights are dim, the steps luxurious, take a breath, moving towards a more deep state of relaxation.

Nine, slowly the next step comes, it feels soft under your feet, comfortable, easy to move onward.  You’ve been here before to a place in your mind where images become more real, where you can relax.

Eight, steady as we take another breath, focus on how it feels to let the air flow in and out of you, let your mind drift as we take another step down, embracing this relaxation.

Seven, what a wonderful place we’re moving towards, a place where the pains and aches of the body no longer matter, where stress won’t follow us, where you can simply relax.

Six, almost halfway down the stairs, there’s no pressure to get to the destination, no sense of time, take a second to imagine the rest of the world around you, the velvet curtains, the windows, the light outside.

Five, with each step, moving down into a place of comfort and relaxation, a world that can very easily be compared to that of a dream, only this dream is comfortable and as warm as the red roses that fill the vase at the base of the stairs.  Take another step.

Four, more relaxed, another breath, a stretch, yawn as you move into this world of dreams, where peace is just a fingers breadth away.  Please continue to move closer to a stage of sleep as we move further down the stairs.  The distractions around you begin to move you further towards this state of rest.

Three, only a few more steps to take, at the bottom you will be completely relaxed, at peace, and comfortable, once there you are free to let your mind drift, let your troubles go.

Two, so peaceful, looking around, breathing deep, your body is a vessel, your mind is the key, in your minds eye examine the room just below you, is it carpeted?  Is it familiar to you?  Do you see the chair, a comfortable place to rest?  Are there any objects of familiarity?

One, let your muscles unwind, you are almost there, let your mind free to experience the thoughts and emotions that you’ve held inside, find a place of clarity, where you can look at your problems and anxieties through a clear voice.

Now breath deep, relax your body, listen to your heart, listen to your thoughts, fill your mind with a white light that surrounds you, absorbs you.  Time here is yours.  Take this escape, and enjoy yourself.  Know that when you rise you will feel more at peace, you will be able to take the pleasure from this place into the waking world, take the comfort and security with you, waking up with a full sense of purpose and wakefulness.

Now to rise from meditation I go through the most simple of mantra’s, where there were ten steps to come down, there are only three to come back, first: One, coming up now, Two, lighter still, and Three.

Do you have any specific methods to relax?  Do you have a place that you take yourself to?  Using this meditation, what did you see?  What did you see?

Thank you for your feedback.  If you find this meditation method of value, please take a moment to share this blog with your friends.

I will try to add a podcast featuring this meditation at another time.

    Claudious,

I knew I absouletly adored you when I started to read your post about meditating. You remind me so of my sister Jerri. You would adore her as well. When I read your post, it was like having a conversation with her. She is studying homeopathy through a school named Quirius (sp?)

I am a strong believer in meditation. I can tell you that when I read your post, it took me to my vision that I have of my own little white beach cottage with white walls and white curtains blowing in the ocean breeze. The floors are all wood and it has sparse furnishings, just a fireplace. And, I am just dancing through the little cottage.

This is my place in my mind that I go to when life gets to stressful or hectic.

Thank you for helping me go back there again on a visit.

May you have a wonderful weekend.

    Melissa

P.S. I must share your webpage with my sister. She will love it.

Thanks for a new meditation. Will you be making another podcast for this one?

My stairs lead me to a room…this room was barely visible at the 2nd step. It wasn’t until the sense of touching the floor of the room…did I see it. Grass…soft, green grass floored the area at the bottom step…I searched out a chair, and found myself swinging. I looked around for familiarities..and could see nothing but grass. I shrug, swing and laugh. Not a visible soul in sight…but there surrounding me nonetheless. Playing amongst each other…picking fresh flowers, that were not in sight…but picked regardless.

Yep that is where this meditation brought me…turned out pretty good. ;)

    Melissa,

I’m so glad to see you here at my lucid reality! I am glad you liked this, and I look forward to meeting your sister too. I have for a long time used meditation as a way to escape the routine, and I love it for that, it’s a real chance to break down my walls. I love that it took you to such a beautiful cottage, I describe in last weeks meditation a little about my escape. I love the vision of yours!

    Gloria,

I’m glad you asked about the podcast for this one. I fully intend to record something, but it might wait till next week. I have company this weekend, but I plan on making the podcast edit once it’s done.

Harmony, that’s a beautiful scenario, I’m glad you were able to see such a place. It sounds really peaceful.

There is nothing more magical than the after Yoga meditation we do in class. LOVE it.

  8. Green Girl Says:

Very unwinding. I think I’ll go lie down now and rest a bit.

I loved the idea of roses at the bottom. When I go to my ‘sanctuary’. One thing I can do is fly. So I let my thought evaporate and with them my body gets lighter, and soon I am flying and looking a the landscape below. Diving, twirling. And it always has my favorite flowers there.
I would like to have you do a meditation that would help to release feeling sorrow, or the ‘blues’.
    Thanks
