Make sure you’re comfortable.
That one moment
Last time we took the stairs to reach a place of deep relaxation, this time I will take you down the escalator. The feelings are the same, the steps are just smoother, and take you down more quickly. Take a deep breath, let your mind go as your muscles relax, your shoulders drop.
With the first step you move forward, there’s a gentle jolt as the steps take over, time slows down, your breathing calms, the steps that move forward look different from most escalators, these echo the impression of luxury and comfort, so much so that you feel comfortable letting your mind go and look around. You’re moving downward, gently, towards this destination of relaxation that so closely resembles sleep.
You’re about halfway there, images solidify, you smell warm chocolate chip cookies being made, the scent of sweet flowers, a gentle breeze, you are not inside, the comfortable feeling continues as you hear a song in the background, something silly and amusing that distracts your mind from anything but how your cheek muscles feel as you smile. In the distance you hear the laughter of children, unadulterated, sweet, innocent laughter, not a care in the world to slow them down. This is as infectious as the music.
The moving stairs take you lower.
More than halfway down the escalator, all around you there is joy, a flock of birds flitters to your left, then to your right, their laughter echoing that song that makes your cheek muscles almost hurt from smiling. Bright colors surround you, flowers and trees, you are only a few breaths from the bottom, as you approach watch how the stairs move, prepare your legs to take that last step into this state of utter relaxation. The ground approaches and you hop gingerly forward.
All around you the world is alive with happiness and jollity, no cares from the outside world, no harm from the past, just a cheerfulness that is infectious. You smile and mean it, your heart warm with the smells, the activity, you see children dancing around a green not too distant. A short man approaches you wearing a jester’s cap and one of the biggest smiles you’ve ever seen. You feel like laughing and he laughs with you, the only thought is the joy of a laugh. He smiles at you and calls you by name, he hands you a rock and then with exaggerated movements cartwheels away, laughing the whole while.
Smiling you look at the rock, as you turn it in your hand it changes shape and becomes a diamond, turning it again you see an inscription. “Blow the pain away.” Wondering… curious, blow on the rock, as you do so your breath takes shape like on a cold winter day, only instead of a white mist it’s slight purple. The mist of your breath pulls towards this crystal, as it is sucked into the rock the color changes from clear to a light purple hue, you breathe out again and feel much better; looking at the rock the color deepens and as that happens your smile deepens as well. The rock is pulling the anger and angst from your lungs, purging your body of all sadness, you grin, breathe out again and you laugh, breath out again and joy permeates your soul.
The music calls to you, begging for a silly dance and not caring if anyone in the world sees you. The songs, the laughter, the smells, all call to you, and a care free laugh breaks forth. As you continue to breathe the mist is getting lighter, the rock is getting darker, once you can no longer see your breath let yourself go, dance, be free. Once you no longer need the rock, simply throw it away and be happy. Smell the flowers, spin, let yourself go.
Feel free to stay here as long as you like, minutes can feel like hours, you’re safe. When you feel ready start waking up, let your mind lighten, and count to three, hearing the words “One, coming up now; two, lighters still; and three.” Waking with a sense of purpose, a smile on your face, and a perspective directed towards one of the happiest days despite anything that happens.

This would make an excellent relaxation prompt for a yoga class. I’m going to think about this some and get back to you.

Word Girl, The thought of that application really made me smile, I think I’d love to hear about it if you decide to do something like that. (I imagine you’d give fair credit, which is all I’d ask for)
