Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about those who make a difference in our lives, following are the thoughts on friendship that I gathered together in my “Ode to Friends”. I’ll have to beg for your forgiveness for not making it more poetic. It’s a combination of my unabridged thoughts and some quotes that I found that agree with how I feel.
What I want for you is happiness. I want you to experience a fullness of all the joy that life can give.
I value your friendship; I value your thoughts and feelings, your opinions… those things that make us the same, and the things that make us different.
C.S. Lewis said: “Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art…. It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.”
“What can I say? You don’t have to find the words to say what’s on your mind.” Justin Hayward
When you smile… that’s the reward.
The greatest quality is someone who not only wants to know me, but has is willing to accept what that’s going to take and willing to let me know them in return.
A good friend wants what’s ultimately best for you, even if it’s not what they want.
“Only your real friends will tell you when your face is dirty.” Sicilian Proverb
I see the best in you, and wants you to see it too.
Share with me your Ode to Friends.

Love those quotes — I like to think a true friend will point out spinach in my teeth, too:)

I like the friends who you don’t see for months, sometimes years but when you get together you pick up right where you left off.

I like this post very much. It makes me think of my friend, A.S.
We’ve been together for quite a while now and I love that we listen to what each other has to say. We don’t judge one another and we look each other right in the eye even when we have nothing to say. It’s like it’s just us, but we’re not in love, just good friends. We are learning more about each other every time we get together; which isn’t as often as we’d like. We also make each other laugh and tease each other unmercifully. I think that’s important. He was there for me in my darkest moments and pulled me back to the light just by hugging me and listening as I poured out my heart. He’s like a gift I get to open everyday and I’m very glad he’s my friend.

Green Girl, lol, I agree, I’ve never been able to hang out well with someone who won’t tell me when I have spinach in my teeth.

Alf, this is true friendship, it passes time and space, I have a handful of people whom if I saw them again we could immediately pick up where we left off, I wonder though if this is for good, or bad.

Carolyn, it’s a blessing for sure to find someone that you click with on such an absolute level, as if your souls were forged at the same time and from the same metal.

My ode belongs to virtual friends, who have become, over time, as important as my flesh friends and even more supportive at times than them. I don’t know what I would do without them.

That’s a great post! A beautiful tribute to friends

Claudia, I couldn’t agree more. Most of my real life friends are long gone, but the friends that I’ve kept the longest without having to marry are all virtual; thank you for your ode.

Oh I loved the Sicilian proverb. Having just spend a week away with my closest friend I know now it’s true friendship!

“Eros will have naked bodies; Friendship naked personalities.”
~ C.S. Lewis
I like the idea that comes with having friends..they are stages in your life…some know everything about you…some only see what they want to see from you…and some, you only share what you need to. None of which are untruthful…just varying in strengths of compatibility. Each friend carrying there own, title uniquely…secretly…but owning up always in the end..for the their position in your life….I tend to think fondly of the people my friends let me see them as…who they wish to share with me…I adore it.

Harmony, I really like what you say about friends, they are all valuable, some for some things, some for others, but all great. I hadn’t thought of it like that. I guess with my friends I’ve generally made them all or nothing.
