Meditation - Water

Featured, Instruction

Every week I post a guided meditation, I do this at the end of the week in order to help release the past week and give us a fresh start leading into the new one.  The purpose of guided meditation is to take you beyond conditioned thinking into a deeper state of relaxation and awareness.  Some of the reported benefits of meditation include: allowing improvements in concentration, general health, a deeper level of relaxation, and a decrease in muscle tension.

This week’s guided meditation is titled “Water” and I would like to thank Harmony for providing this idea through her comment last week about floating in a canoe being less natural than simply floating in the water.

Please make sure you are comfortable, and we will begin.

As we begin take a breath, you are aware of everything and not aware.  You are listening with your subconscious mind, your conscious mind is distant, far away, not listening, letting your thoughts wander.  Your subconscious mind is awake, listening, hearing everything while your conscious mind remains very relaxed and peaceful, letting your focus wander.  You can relax peacefully because your subconscious mind is taking charge, as this happens you will feel the desire to close your eyes.  Continue to breath steady, letting the sensation wash over you.

Let your subconscious mind do all the listening, your inner thoughts know, and because it knows your conscious mind does not need to know and can stay asleep, you will feel relaxed and a growing sense of peace as your subconscious mind stays awake, and you fall gently into this state of rest and sleep.  The inner mind, the subconscious has so much potential, the ability to focus so sharp that all pain is lost, all noise other than the sound of my voice is drown out.  Close your eyes, listen with your subconscious mind, you can relax your body, as you listen more with your subconscious you no longer need to listen with your conscious mind, and can let your head drift down as you enter a stage of carefree and relaxing sleep.

As you continue to listen with your subconscious mind your conscious mind sleeps, with every voice going deeper and deeper, muscles relaxing, going deeper, breathing slow and steady as you go deeper, letting the anxiety and pain from the past week flow out through your fingertips, moving deeper into a state of relaxation and sleep.  Let your conscious mind stay deeply asleep and with your subconscious listen, feel, hear, smell, and touch the world around you.

Relax, let your muscles relax, let your mind relax, imagine your body as a rag doll, no stress or pressure, just the lightness of being, take a steady breath, hold it, and release, every muscle in your body responding to each word I say, relaxing and releasing their stored up tension, feeling this toxic energy flow out with every breath, streaming out of your mouth as you exhale, running down your fingers with every pulse.

The first feeling is that of lying on your back, taking a deep breath and smelling the fresh breeze that blows through the grass and trees, filled with oxygen and the sweet smell of flowers, blended with the smell of the water.  Muscles relax as you feel on your right and left fingertips the cool sensation of slowly flowing water, fingers neither floating, nor submerged, resting just below the surface with absolutely no effort to keep them there.  The wet sensation is on your arms, against your back, down your sides, and covering your legs, the water holding you perfectly above the surface, steady and just right.

Take another breath, feel the air flow into you, the fresh scent delicious and relaxing.  Feel free to move your hands and feet, move your arms and legs.  As you do so, smile, feel the world take shape around you, the sky above you blue with brilliant white clouds making shapes high overhead, the green willow tree swaying steady in the breeze, the water cool and perfect on your skin.  Laying back and floating, enjoy the sensation, enjoy the complete lack of priorities that this place affords.  Your head floats effortlessly on the water, as you focus on the sensation of water against your neck you feel something more, gentle loving hands holding you as you float, your heart swells knowing this Love of yours is standing by your side, holding you steady, supporting you, loving you as you float with confidence and security.

Observe your surroundings, the water, the grass, the trees, what’s in the distance?  What’s close to you?  What are you wearing?  What are you feeling?  Enjoy your surroundings, you can continue to float, or put your feet on the earth and explore.  As you experience this further, details take shape, a dream that forms more completely, seeing a smiling face you have longed for, looking into eyes that pass right into your soul.  Smile, take comfort, take a deep breath and let your muscles relax.  Time slows down, you have all that you need, relax, take it easy, let your stress and anxiety float away from you with the slow moving tide, rinsing you clean and leaving you refreshed and capable.

When you are ready, take a breath, and wake up slowly, hearing these gentle words calling you back; one, coming up now, two, lighter still, and three, fully awake, fully rested, and able to have a pleasant rest when you next lie down for sleep.

Thank you.

What I love most about this weeks meditation method is that its strength comes from where most people have trouble meditating, it works best if you have trouble finding a quiet place, the more you get distracted during it, the better it is supposed to work.  This method of guided meditation is referred to as the confusion method.  I’m very curious as to what you think.

This has been an adventurous week, please share with me your feelings on this meditation, the sensations you experience, if it worked for you, and what you saw while there.  If you found this mediation helpful, please take a moment to share it with a friend or member of your family who needs a bit of quick relaxation.

How wonderful. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m planning to - I know that I could use this to unkink and relax.

I really like the water relaxation here. I use a visualization like this at the chiropractors when he adjusts my neck. It’s the only way I can release my muscles enough.
I will listen to this one often. thx

  3. Julie Says:

Despite my previous failed attempts at meditation. Maybe I’ll give this one a go. Thanks for offering up the method.

  4. Claudious Says:

Ree, I’m glad that you’re willing to try it, it’s hard to unkink sometimes, and it’s interesting putting myself out there through this.

Omama, I’m glad you’ve found something that can help release your muscles, I went to a chiropractor once, and I can imagine how important it is to relax.

  6. Claudious Says:

Julie, I sure hope that this one works for you, I’d like to say they’re getting better each time. Also, if at first it doesn’t work, give them a couple more tries, at the very leasty it should help you find a measure of relaxation.

I love floating in bodies of water..this is a perfect meditation for me…the thing that attracts me most to this meditation is the feeling of a cool breeze…gliding over me, and causing the trees to dance…Cherry blossoms take flight and reach for one another…dancing a the waltz on their descent to the earth below…
