Mangled Poetry – List Poems – The Fire

Poetry

Welcome to the Sunday Mangled poem.  Every week I post a mangled poem, sometimes it’s something simple with no point other than to point out that there are some terrible poems out there, or to demonstrate just how badly I can do poetry.  I do this in celebration of some of the published poems I have read that make my brain hurt.

This week’s mangled poem is a tribute to the List Poem:

A list poem is one based around a central idea, things that go under the same label, or invoke the same feelings.  “It’s not easy being green” by Jim Henson is a great example of a list poem.

The Fire:

The fire is hot
The fire is warm
The fire banishes darkness
The fire loves to be fed
The fire wants me closer
The fire calls to me
The fire makes the dark outside darker
The fire comforts me
The fire crackles
The fire smells
The fire only heats part of me
The fire burns when I get too close

I look forward to your mangled list poem.

Thank you!

I love your fire poem. I love fire. But I have an idea for my list poem.
    The garage
    The garage holds our car.
    The garage protects.
    The garage shelters.
    The garage guards.
    No one enters the garage.
    The garage gathers things.
    The garage is full.
    The garage needs cleaning.
    The garage is never finished.
I am always cleaning out the garage.
